A practical checklist for your team's next handover.
- STEP 01
Before the booking is confirmed
Record the pet’s name and identification, the responsible owner, emergency contacts, dates, dietary requirements, current medicines, behaviour triggers and relevant vaccination evidence. The staff member checking the booking should know which details still need confirmation.
- STEP 02
At check-in
Verify the person dropping off the pet, compare actual belongings against the intake list, discuss any new health information and confirm the latest consent is signed. Flag anything requiring a staff handover rather than hiding it in a free-text note.
- STEP 03
Each day during care
Record food and water intake, toilet habits, activity, behaviour and any special instructions. Publish suitable owner-facing updates and keep staff-only sensitive notes separate. Escalate urgent health concerns using the service’s emergency procedures, not a periodically refreshed chat.
- STEP 04
At departure
Confirm pickup authorisation, hand over medication and belongings, summarise significant observations and close open tasks. The next visit should benefit from today’s lessons without exposing private staff notes.
